I just found this infographic on the History of Credit Cards from Sainsbury’s .
It’s like it because many of us are wrapped up in the FinTech revolution, and if you start believing your own hype, you’d think cash was invented a million years ago, plastic cards 10,000 years ago and mobile phones last January.
What has changed though, is the barrier to entry has fallen. Before 10 years ago, it looks like a new entrant would need significant backing to reach a large audience. Current new entrants need less funding than ever before, and that’s what makes them so disruptive.
Infographics like this one prove that despite some decades of inactivity, there are have been decades like the 1960s and the noughties of mass adoption and innovation.
